In Archie’s own words
“I was never top of my class in primary school, but before my IGCSEs I decided to really give it a go.
I went on to achieve 10 A*s at IGCSE and 43 points in the IB, with 7s in HL Maths, Physics and Economics. I’m now in my second year of Theoretical Physics at UCL, after a First in my first year.
I believe learning should be fun, motivating and affordable. My lessons are relaxed, clear and built around each student, because progress looks different for everyone.”
Archie’s lessons start by finding where a student’s understanding actually breaks down, which is usually earlier than the topic where the marks were lost, and rebuilding from there. He describes it like this:
“Most of the students I teach aren’t struggling because they can’t do the subject. They’re struggling because nobody has shown them a way of working that suits them. So that’s what I spend lessons doing. I find where the understanding actually breaks down, which is usually two or three topics further back than where the marks were lost, and we rebuild from there. I keep lessons relaxed. I would far rather a student asked me something they think is obvious than sat quietly and nodded.”
Diagnose first. The first lesson finds the missing idea underneath the topic that is going wrong.
Rebuild, then practise. The idea is explained step by step, then tried on exam-style questions from the student’s own board or course.
Tell the parent. After every lesson, parents receive a short note on what was covered and what to practise next.
The honest way to judge any of this is to try it. The first 30 minutes are free: bring a topic you find difficult and see how it is explained. There is more on the reviews page about how to test a tutor before paying.

What Archie is not. He is a university student who tutors, not a tutoring agency and not a school. He does not promise grades or scores, because exams are marked by the exam board and no tutor sits in that room.
What Archie teaches
Archie teaches four subjects, Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Economics, from IGCSE and GCSE through A-Level (including Further Maths) and the IB Diploma at Standard and Higher Level. He also prepares students for the TMUA and ESAT university admissions tests.
